Nice video. Your Vorticella or Pseudovorticella (as the case may be) abandoned its stalk, (mobile form is called telotroch)

most likely due to the stressful situation (can't blame it) and went looking for greener pastures.

Not a happy ending unless you returned the sample to the sample jar.

As to the price, assuming you can get it for €300 (no extra shipping or taxes) then for a new first microscope it is not a bad deal. Be aware though that if you develop a ...

The first subject is an inexpensive calibration slide. It should highlight the planarity of field and tends to make chromatic aberation more noticeable.
Curious as to whether you used a cover slip on the calibration slide

Glen, I don't often go to species level on Naviculoids although perhaps I ought to; may I ask what makes you suggest N. angusta? Seemed to me to be the closest to an ID out of the Navicula on the diatoms.org website - though would need dimensions to be more than tentative https://diatoms.org/specie...

Perhaps some more details on what you are going to view and why. Are you going to make beer or cheese ... business or pleasure?

Perhaps others have had better results from a web search, but I have yet to find cotton that states it is ophthalmological grade.

I suppose one could pop into an ophthalmologist and ask but I would not be surprised to get a blank look from them.

So where is this cotton?
