Re: Parfocalling-do it yourself?

I wouldn't consider it. Seems a bit scary to me.. I have been known to adjust parfocal capabilities using spacers or o-rings on objective threads but have not tried to glue anything. Greg

Re: Bausch and Lomb 7801 vd microscope with a Budd base

Regarding light from top, bottom, or side, the answer is yes. And I would design my own stage using led lighting. One tip. When observing opaque specimens it is handy to have both a black and a white stage pad to put the specimen on. Some things look better with a black background while others look ...

Re: Homemade Microtome

The different it makes is whether or not you want to work with chemicals to eliminate the parafine from the specimen, and whether or not you can get good results with aCarrot. So if I were you I would start with a carrot because that's easy, and go from there.

Re: LED Illumination Comparison

Thanks Louise. You just proved that my leds are less blue than daylight. I appreciate that and have more appreciation for the lighting I have chosen, which is very similar to yours. I don't have a 680 yet and maybe never will. But my conversion of my 660 gives similar results. :)

Re: Color filters

Halogen lighting is very red and when dimmed, the field becomes yellow. The blue filter counteracts that effect, making it seem more white. Other filters can enhance the appearance of images. When using polarization or oblique lighting, colored filters cause a measureable retardation of the light wa...

Re: LED lighting....why the hate?

I agree with you Louise in pretty much all you said. My scopes which were originally halogen have all of the power elements intact so that, if necessary, all I need do is re-mount the halogen bulb and plug it in. Greg

Re: LED lighting....why the hate?

I notice things seem less blue when I am using warm white led color. Others may have different experiences. Color seems to differ between manufacturers. Warm white, bright white,,,, not standardized. If I find what actually works I order ten of them just to have the assurance of having them in the d...

FLICKER TROUBLES. So, I don't have a dslr. All I have is these microscope cameras from Amscope. I have been experimenting with MU100-HS MU1403 MU1000 AND WF200. WITH THE 1000-HS, 1403, AND 1000, I HAVE FLICKER AT ALL BUT MINIMUM ILLUMINATION INTENSITY. WITH WF200 I HAVE NO FLICKER AT ANY INTENSITY L...

Re: Help with identification

I have a hard time thinking the image is in focus. If it is the best focus you can get it is too bright and lacks contrast. This problem may be reduced by dimming the light or closing the diaphragm or both. As is, I don't see any cell structure. It's pretty but not distinct. Fuzzy. Take another look...

Re: Kid's/student's objective standard?

Those objectives come with small student scopes such as IQ Crew. Amscope offers such scopes, even in an inverted version. The inverted version even has extended focal point of 170 instead of 160. They are made in 4, 10,20, and 40x. I have not seen 100x. If you need specs or more objectives, I would ...

Re: Question: Plant Cell Separation

Anything I am aware of would be damaging to cell structure. Most of the time it is the cell wall that survives the experience and everything inside is destroyed. It is far easier to focus attention upon a single cell within a structure then to disrupt the structure.
