Re: Help with microscope aquisition!

My suggestions; Used big brand - vs. - new no big brand - vs - new big brand entry level? If you can inspect a used big brand try that. Your first time should warn you as to what you might get. "New no big brand" would be my choice unless you want to spend a fair bit of time finding and replacing ba...

HY-2307 camera - Once I get it all figured out, I’ll publish a review.
When you do I'll look forward to your review and more images.

Polarized is very nice.

Re: Chromosome in Lily Ovary 600X

Very nice. Sounds like you enjoy observing plant subjects but be careful or John B. will "Hook" you :)
I have ever try Onion root tips and squash it for wet mount. But I can not find clearly chromosome in the root tip sample.
I have been unsuccessful as well but I am not giving up.

Good post.

Re: Illumination technique comparison using the same Closterium

Well done and very instructional.

IMHO oblique is most pleasing due to the 3D effect but the DIF reveals more detail - some of which could be due to the higher magnification/ resolution.

All are very good images.

Check out this article-BTW, grass works as well as hay. http://www.microbehunter.com/making-a-hay-infusion/ Also look up other sites by doing an online search. Do you have any potted house plants? Over water one and let the water drain through the pot and collect in a container. You should find lots...

Re: Stacking Software

Pat, back in 2015 I did a simple comparison between Picolay and CombineZP (another free stacking software). http://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1494 Pretty much a toss up between the two. Give CombineZP a try. I prefer CombineZP because I have been using it for so long.

Ciliate

My wife over watered the poinsettia plant and lots of little critters developed in the small pool of standing water. Here is a new ciliate for me ~200 Ums. I am not able to ID it so suggestions welcome. Image with 20X obj. http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/ss152/jtallon2/IMG_0035-200-Ums-JPEG_zpsb1...
