Looks very promising!
Minor correction: if it's the CFN Plan 40x, it has a NA of 0.70, not 0.65.

Re: Mosquito wing for objective testing
Couple of more question about these magnifiers.. - Do you know if the optical formula changed between BH to BH-2? Can I expect same field coverage/corner quality in APS-C? - Will I be able to use it in conjunction with the PZO MIP5 Head? Olympus catalogues from the BH era suggests that you can use ...

Re: Has anyone made a visual comparison of Achromatic, Apo and Plan objectives?
I don't know any "definitive reference" on the topic, but there are some interesting comparisons to be found here and there. Different makers has had different standards, and these standards have changed over time - so you can never say anything definitive about such broad classifications. Here are ...

Re: Mosquito wing for objective testing
Getting a DIC intermediate tube seems like an expensive way to get 1.25x! Kidding aside, it might be a good idea to get a magnification changer. The BH2-CA has settings for 1x, 1.25 and 1.5x. This can be nice if you want to clip the corners on some objectives (non-plan Fluors) but not others (Plana...

Re: Mosquito wing for objective testing
Ok, I understand.. :D I am considering getting one of this magnifiers to use it with nikon CFN lenses Olympus performs the corrections on the eyepiece, so I guess this one is neutral guess it is neutral and will work with the nikon lenses via direct projection. That 1.25x is all I would need to rem...

Re: 2 ways to get 200X
Thanks Pete. My 60x has no field iris, I forgot that many high end objectives do have one. As soon as you said it I felt silly, it was obvious. lol. The field iris would be in the base, below your condenser, not in the objective. The field iris adjusts the size of the illuminated field (in the obje...

Hey viktor j Nilsson, came across this post and realised I’ve got the same 100x objective!-I got it mainly for the iris-mine is super smooth for its vintage as well-I haven’t used silicon oil yet but this is the objective that proved to me that oil immersion was something worthwhile! Using oil (hope...

Re: Wanted: Leica K2 DIC prism, Nikon L prism
That's great to know, Pete! Did you need to modify the prism at all? The PZO prisms are housed in a removable metal surround. The diameter was OK to fit into an Olympus phase condenser and be secured by the setscrews. The height, however, was too tall and needed to be cut down to a bit under 6mm th...

Re: Silicone immersion objectives - any experience?
Happy to report that both the 40x 1.00 and 100x 1.25 silicone objectives has now arrived safely and in good condition. Based on the reputation of the grease Olympus used on their classical microscopes, which tends to turn solid with age, I have been rather surprised by how smooth the iris mechanisms...

The two key variables to be optimized is the shear angle and location of the interference fringe. The shear angle is optimized based on the NA of the objective, with narrower angles for high NA/high magnification objectives. I think that it is correct to say that this is because you want the separa...

Re: Olympus U-DICT versus U-DICTS
I have the DICT-S. I have never noticed any difference in the image quality based on the position of the BFP switch. It looks equally good in either position, at least for my objectives. Some of these require the level in a pushed in position according to the specs. Let me know if you want me to me...

Re: Olympus U-DICT versus U-DICTS
Sorry, I'm not sure what you are saying here. This is the situation you are after: If you look at the green box above, note the outward pointing optical axis is on the left not the right as in the original. Technically I guess a rotation would make the green box have the optical axis point in, but ...

Re: Olympus U-DICT versus U-DICTS
Is rotating the top prism on the vertical axis like this still a valid set up? Come to think of it, the condenser discs can rotate freely, so the top prism, even though it's locked in a slider could rotate that way too. Sorry, I'm not sure what you are saying here. This is the situation you are aft...

Re: Olympus U-DICT versus U-DICTS
So does the U-DICTS centered knob (unlike the U-DICT screw which moves the prism in and out) rotate the prism? And the side lever moves the assembly in and out? I don't have a U-DICTS slide to check that. I would assume that the centered knob translates the prism in and out, and the side lever lift...

Re: Olympus U-DICT versus U-DICTS
Could it be that it tilts the prism a couple degrees relative to the optical axis? I remember you posted a link to an Olympus patent on this exact thing: that when you tilt the prism, the location of the Interference fringe shifts, and can thus match objectives with different BFPs. https://i.imgur.c...

Very nicely done! Good to know that it's possible to do direct projection with the BH-2 trino head. I can't see any reason not to continue with the Nikon CF optics at this point. That is going to be a pretty ideal setup.

Re: Does it make sense to use Nikon CFN lenses on a olympus BH-2?
I can see a couple of issues. 1) will you be able to position the sensor at the correct distance for direct projection using the BH-2 trinocular head? It will depend on how easy it is to remove the chimney. I don't remember seeing it being done, but it could just be that since most olympus users use...

Btw, how do you dry the cover glass after the piranha bath? Multiple washes with deionized water, then submerge the coverlips under ethanol. Whenever I need a coverslip I use tweezers to grab one and let the ethanol evapore on its own, it doesn't leave traces if its sufficiently clean. I see, that ...
