I have the DICT-S. I have never noticed any difference in the image quality based on the position of the BFP switch. It looks equally good in either position, at least for my objectives. I find that schematics of DIC setups are very often drawn inocorrectly.

Could it be that it tilts the prism a couple degrees relative to the optical axis? I remember you posted a link to an Olympus patent on this exact thing: that when you tilt the prism, the location of the Interference fringe shifts, and can thus match objectives with different BFPs. https://i.imgur.c...

I've used the method described by Paolo Pizza with good results. It's much harder at 40x and above.

Very nicely done! Good to know that it's possible to do direct projection with the BH-2 trino head. I can't see any reason not to continue with the Nikon CF optics at this point. That is going to be a pretty ideal setup.

It will depend on how easy it is to remove the chimney. I don't remember seeing it being done, but it could just be that since most olympus users use...
