Re: Leitz SM Medical Microscope
I've been using this setup to practice photographing things using a digital camera instead of the Nikon 35mm in the photos above. I'm still waiting for some supplies to arrive like a dye kit so hopefully I'll see some improvement with that. I'm a Geologist, not a Biologist so I may have misidentifie...

Re: Leitz SM Medical Microscope
Ooops, must have made a typo when I put it into the Google converter. That's good, it should fit then.Hobbyst46 wrote:Actually, 1.614x25.4=40.996mm...Bryan wrote:My calipers read 1.614 inches at the widest point which converts to 42.453mm...

Re: Leitz SM Medical Microscope
MichaelG, I measured the male fitting that inserts into the microscope arm, it looks like it's about 43mm, does that compare to yours? Mmm ... This could get interesting/confusing My dovetail only measures 40.98mm diameter, but it has a surprisingly long cylindrical portion at that diameter. [ As i...

Re: Leitz SM Medical Microscope
Thanks for the responses! Looking at some of the literature on these microscopes it does look like they use the same parts between the Laborlux and the SM models. Leitz SM Medical Microscope
I just received 1957 Leitz SM Medical binocular microscope kit. This is my first "real" microscope other than what I used in college and work years ago. I have an Edmunds Scientific Monocular 3 lens microscope which is basically a toy. I chose this one because it looks like a complete kit and I can ...

Re: New Member from Seattle
Interesting story Bryan, it's always good to hear where a person comes from and a bit of their life story. You are certainly dedicated to stick with the old film and am sure you'll find the right scope to marry your camera too. I loved film in my day, the Pentax ME-super was my tool and I spent man...

Re: Trying to Identify a B&L Accessory
This 1970 B&L microscope catalog has it listed on page 10, they call it an accessory slot compensator. Anyone have a use for one of these?

Re: Trying to Identify a B&L Accessory
It looks to be a "tilting compensator", used in polarization studies of birefringent materials. It has nothing to do with the other item (the micrometer eyepiece). Here is a manual (top row, middle) for the Leitz equivalent (go to the pdf page 16 of the manual for the English version): http://micro...

Re: Trying to Identify a B&L Accessory
Pete, you could be right, it may insert into the optical path somewhere. I attached another photo to give a better view of the part that would be inserted. The total length of the tab is 2.5 inches but there is a stop or raised edge that looks like it would only be inserted 1.5 inches. The tab that ...

Trying to Identify a B&L Accessory
I was at an estate sale recently for a University of Washington professor where I found these interesting B&L accessories. There were no microscopes for sale, a lot of lab glassware and a few other laboratory items. The item on the right looks like a micrometer and the one in front looks like a diap...

Hello from the Seattle. My history with microscopes has to do with my degree in Geology. I spent a lot of time in the Geology lab looking at thin sections through a PLM microscope. After I graduated with my degree my first job was working in a laboratory analyzing asbestos samples with a PLM microsc...
