Re: A hidden gem of superior optics - Wolfe/Kyowa

It was in good condition, except for two minor issues. The cross hair lens was originally glued and has come loose (any glue suggestions?) and the knob on the quarter turning filter beneath the stage is broken off. That broken off piece will be a pain to get out. Probably going to have to use a tiny...

Re: Recommend grease?

I prefer Super Lube. Others have mentioned it. I found Habor Freight (in the USA) sells tubes of it. I bought a 14 oz tube for $8 on amazon several years ago. Expect I will never run out. A lot of lithium greases can harden with time, Super Lube should not.

Re: Question for Pipette users

They aren't unwieldy at all. If you find that you like a volume but not the tip opening, simply cut the tip and make the opening larger. Used to do it for certain protocols in a mycology lab. You should look up the info on servicing them, it is pretty easy. There are generally parts that are simply ...

Where I work there is an Olympus CK2 that has a 40x on it. LWD CD Plan, 40 PL, 160/0-2 0.55, T2. It has an internal iris and is phase contrast.

Re: WANTED: AO Series 20

I will have to take a bit and go through things more thoroughly. I actually did not anticipate much interest/action on the post for a while. I am seriously interested in an AO series 20. I will edit this for more details before the end of the day (9pm my time). Edit 1) So, price wise, it mostly depe...

Re: A hidden gem of superior optics - Wolfe/Kyowa

Well, I bought one. $20 cost and $20 shipping is really not bad. Looks like I definitely got the same listing, and you are right, it is gone now so I think I got the last one. Pretty exited for this. If you have any time to take some photos through it I would love to see them. Now I just need to get...

Re: Midwest Mycologist

Well, the real problem is I do not have the socket for the light, nor the transformer. So, I am basically doing what I can afford and it is much cheaper to buy or have a friend make and LED (I know a physics tech at a university that does this type of thing), than it is to get all the original parts...

Re: A hidden gem of superior optics - Wolfe/Kyowa

What moves on these little guys, the stage or the head/nose piece? I am particularly interested in using my Canon D60 with an eyepiece adapter, but it is heavy and I don't have the setup to support the cameras weight if the microscope cannot.

Looks like phase constrast and polarized, so I think that is DIC, if the post about equpiment (third attachment) is part of the listing.

Midwest Mycologist

Hi, I am from and living in the midwest of USA. I have a PhD in mycology. I am currently trying to get the parts together to complete a Leitz Ortholux I have. I have everything but a light source and am not making enough money to justify the purchase of a LED light source. I have a Leitz Labolux III...

WANTED: AO Series 20

Hi,

I am on the look out for a cheap AO Series 20. I am not concerned about objectives or condenser (although an abbe condenser would be nice). So far I missed one on ebay by just a few dollars (really sucked) and have yet to see any others at a reasonable price.

First Surface Mirror?

Has anyone ever tried old hard drive platters as a first surface mirror? They are incredibly smooth and very reflective. I have several laying around, but I have no need to cut them and no way to test the outcome.

Gilson makes great pippetters. Pick whatever volume looks best abd cut the tips if you need a wider opening. Wouldn’t want to squish things through a tiny hole.

Sounds good for the labels. What do you guys use to maintain the enamel? Just something like a chamois cloth and maybe a tiny bit of water?

AO phase contrast condenser 1240

Hey everyone, I have looked through the manuals and other documentation I found online, but I cannot find the NA of the mentioned condenser. It is an AO phase contrast and dark field condenser. The catalog number is 1240. The lens on the condenser is catalog number 1242. The only thing I can find is...

Enamel Care

I have two Leitz microscopes of the black enamel era and two zoom stereostar AO stereo scopes of the gray enamel type. What do you guys suggest for maintaining the enamel, safely removing stickers on the enamel, etc.

Thanks,

@75RR I know Zeiss recommends a mix that includes isopropyl alcohol, but it does damage aluminum. Admittedly, I am not sure of the rate of the reaction that occurs.

Re: Zeiss Standard Phase Condenser Parts Diagram

I believe all the Zeiss Standard Phase condensers are of a similar design. The ball bearing sits atop a small spring. A little grease helps to smooth its running and keeps it in place during assembly. In the first photo you can see it peeking out from an assembled phase condenser. In the second pho...

Zeiss Standard Phase Condenser Parts Diagram

I need to figure out where a ball bearing that fell out of the inside belongs. I am trying to reassemble after a sloppy cl...
