Re: 5mb Toupcam first light!

Thank you Steve. Your photos were taken without microscope eyepiece (USB camera replaced eyepiece), correct? Your photo labels "40x" and "100x" are total magnification (which corresponds to 4x NA 0.1 and 10x NA 0.25 objectives), correct? Have you tried capturing images from your 40x and 100x oil ob...

Re: DSLR with Toupview?

Hi Oliver Thanks for that. Yes I noticed that option but so far haven't found a way of implementing twain on my Nikon. I have also managed to successfully compile Micro-manager on a Linux partition I created thinking I could use Gphoto which is supposed to enable dslr's but no luck as yet:-( guess I...

Re: DSLR with Toupview?

Ah! OK I did wonder if it was possible,no probs. I do have some useful tethering apps for my Nikon D5500 which does enable live view on the pc, namely 'Backyard Nikon' and the excellent 'Digicam control'. The Toupcam type I've ordered is I think a rebadged Toupcam off eBay for a really good price so...

Re: Polarizing setup?

Thanks all for the helpful replies ;-) Like Johns idea with the rotating Hoya filter above the diaphragm think I might have one of those kicking about somewhere .I understand only one of the filters needs to rotate so the one above the specimen could be fixed and the one below rotate!.

Re: LED conversion?

Hi Guys I`m thinking LED illumination maybe for lack of heat, ease of obtaining bulbs, better (?) intensity, etc. I assume most if not all new scopes seem to come with LED`s now so must be a valid reason for doing so!. If I`m honest I`m not that experienced to give a better reason really??. cheers S...

Hi guys Ordered one of these AC/DC dimmable led`s http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301862657206?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Simply plugs in fine and works ok except the dimming is very slight from maximum to minimum and its only rated at 3watts to replace 20-30watt bulbs. Hi Charlie
I did think it would just be a straight swop or at least some sort of driver?, the resistor didn`t occur to me, also would I be able to dim it using the same control?
thanks

LED conversion?

Hi Guys Been thinking of converting my `just bought` Leitz Laborlux s scope to LED and thought I`d have to do a bit of diyery to do that. My scope uses a 100watt 12v GY6.35 fit bulb and I've come across a replacement 12v 4watt GY6.35 fit LED bulb and I`m wondering if it really is that simple to do, ...

Re: Spectroscopy with Micro?

Hi guys Sure here's a few from a while back, taken with a 120mm Espirit Apo refractor and Alpy 600 spectroscope. Raw shots are mono images as colour is not important with stellar spectra its simply a case of plotting the curve intensity from left to right. This is a typical raw spectrum of the star ...

Re: Stereo/Bino which one to buy?

Thanks Charles. So a stereo scope would be used to observe opaque things such as a pcb for example and illuminated from above and a compound one for observing objects that are mainly transparent and illuminated from below. Surely if a sample was lit from above in a compound scope that would achieve ...
