20 mm working distance air objective, 10x, 0.50 NA
Interesting publication, >4 (9?) mm^2 FOV and is of fully open design - no strings attached. Nice! "The design of the objective is not patented, and it will not be patented in the future. All designs originating in this report are free for reuse, no licensing or material transfer agreements are requ...

Try acetone/IPA mix and relatively aggressive scrape with sharpened wooden stick on one edge - if it is residue, it starts to move and there is not much to lose.

Really nice video on SIM principles, by David Agard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i73HhpLJrqs Basically it is boiling down in information gathering on wavefront, increasing NA with tricks beyond what is possible with just glass shaping in objective. Appears as simple as changing the light source ...

The source of light modulation can also be DLP projector. Check this thread about Aurox and other methods:

The SIM light pattern can be projected from DLP projector, just changing out the light source to specific narrow spectral range LED: https://www.nature.com/articles/srep01116 As far I understand, this gives the same properties for high resolution sectioning as the spinning disk pattern. Higher than ...

Brings up the question, is that all still too complex for amateur level open source hardware approach - light modulators are reasonably cheap now, the same has pretty much happened to back thinned sensors.

Well, it always starts as interfere-ometry and in the progress of developed pathology sometimes transits to full blown interferometry.

Re: Disassembling a Leica HC Plan Fluotar 20X/0.5 NA lens and fixing crud advice needed
It may sound bit grandiose but interferometer and software for analysis is a quite cheap tool nowadays and optical fixtures are not that unreachable devices. Even if original cost effective mass-manufacturing requires relatively high complexity machinery, there is nothing inherently complicated in o...

After DIC analyzer it will not work directly as passive method - the analyzer itself is polarisation filter. It may be possible have additional stereo depth effect if the polarisation angle is slightly rotated, with shuttering periodically one or other eye, offering each eye a little different viewp...

This may have interesting application for stereo modified DIC - slightly shifted polarisation for left/right eye with active shutter, different/multiangle DIC gradient for left/right eye etc.
