Ideonella sakaiensis

#1 Post by Plasmid » Mon Oct 19, 2020 5:09 pm

Hi guys, Im interested in finding Ideonella sakaiensis to start a culture and possibly experiment with some plastics, from what I gathered they are pretty small and so a gram stain is a must. Does anyone have any experience with Ideonella sakaiensis ? Advise is greatly appreciated.

It was found in Japan right? If you are associated with some institution you might be able to get some of their cultures after coming up with some research proposal. It seems like international shipments of live biological agents is not super easy.

You could locate your local PET recycling facility and take samples. Identifying and isolating a new species sounds like a lot of work, though.
