Have you tried plant maceration (at home)?

I am wondering if you tried to make slides out of macerated plant tissues.
How was your experience? Any tips?

Exactly my question... I found this one with the forum's search function.

I have this protocol
Purvis (1966) wrote:Maceration by Ammonium Oxalate
This is a useful method for non-woordy materials. thin slivers of material, cut longitudinally, are placed in alcoholic HCl (1 part HCl:3 parts commercial alcohol) for 24h or longer. They are then washed in distilled water and transfereed to 0.5 per cent ammonium ocalate. The material should be mounted in this and the cover glass gently tapped to separate the contents.
Regrettably I have no clue what strength the hydrochloric should be. Most sources (still!) recommend Jeffrey's solution based on a.o. chromic acid.

Cooking has been suggested, as well al basic hydrolysis (KOH).

I wonder why pectinase isn't used at all?
