I do a lot of mineralogy among other things.
Using a simple 5/8 inch garden hose washer and Loctite Go To glue, I mount the washer to the slide and allow to dry.
I add the mineral grains or whatever and seal with a round cover slip. This makes a nice slide
Another thing I do for large objects I want to use with the stereo scope is to cut the top off a plastic water bottle, sand it smooth, and glue it to the slide, again using the Go To glue. When it is dry, I add the specimen and screw on the bottle top. I store them that way and when I want to study them I simply take the top off and take it to the scope. Both of these mounting systems fit nicely in a slaide box.
they make small acrylic storage containers and I use them a lot for storage of small grains, sands, etc. But they are no good under the scope aas i do a lot of polarization, and acrylic destroys polarization.

Re: Strews and Such
Interesting. I have used the 3D printer to make spacers of variable thicknessses before and was pleased with the result.
