Spread prep.

#1 Post by neal Shields » Tue Jun 21, 2022 10:20 pm

I purchased a set of old histology slides (they are in a bakelite box). They were from a medical school and seem to be of very good quality. One of the slides is labeled: "Mesentery Spread Prep."

I can't find much on the internet on a "spread" prep.

The slide itself is a single layer of tissue which in one place looks like it is stretched (spread?) between a microscope umbrella rod.

I am wondering what they used for the rod and if this technique is ever used anymore.

The area where the connective tissue is stretched gives a MUCH better image of the structure than where it isn't.

Has anyone got any information on this technique?

Thanks
Neal
