Eclectic slide sets?

#1 Post by neal Shields » Mon Aug 29, 2022 2:42 pm

I'll start. I have about 300 slides from a PhD thesis from the '40s where a researcher cut the legs off of newts to see how they grew back. Then after they grew back he cut them off again.

They all grew back the same, so I have 300 slides that all show about the exact same thing. (In some cases he cut them off closer to the body and in others closer to the foot.

This is a link to the dissertation that my OCD required me to find after I got the slides at an estate sale.

This is the slides and the boxes they came in.

I have another set of slides (60) that are water fleas from the great lakes area. They are very carefully labeled as to the exact location from where they were collected. They are also the product of scientific research. They are also all almost exactly alike.

Again, my OCD forced me to trace the research.

Impressive, Neal!

What does a typical newt slide look like, under 2x or 4x objective?

I don’t have any exotic slides to share, though I would be interested in buying some (such as quality water flea slides) if anyone here wants to unload their duplicates.

I do have some beautifully made plant and diatom slides that I enjoy very much, which were made by members John B, Rob and Kurt of this forum. Those are not for trade though; I like them too much.

I also have some deep sea foraminifera (some loose, some mounted) that came from deep sea drilling, kindly provide by Richard Howey; and some cleaned loose diatoms kindly provided by Steve Beats (Beatsy).

But worse than that they are all the same.
