I just picked-up my first halfway decent microscope at a second-hand store, a Konus 5302. It looked clean and complete (it was) and for $12 it was not a big financial decision.
(I thought I would use it for building and repairing surface-mount circuit boards.....now I'll be on the lookout for a stereo scope!)
Although I have made some in the past, I don't think I'll be making too many of my own slides, so I'd like to get a set or two of prepared slides. I've read that most of the more affordable sets are not very well done, and better sets are significantly more expensive.
Finally, my question: is it possible to "fix" -- re-mount or even re-stain -- badly-done cheap slides?
TIA for sharing your expertise!

Aside from softening crazed bslsam on some older ones, there isn't much you can do. Any renovation attempts would likely destroy the subject and would be pretty much paramount to making a slide, so you might as well start slow and make some yourself.
