Injected lung

#1 Post by neal Shields » Tue Mar 07, 2023 3:58 pm

I purchased a set of Clay Adams histology slides off eBay.

I particularly wanted the "injected lung" slide.

Apparently the tissue is injected with a blood like substance before the slide is made making it easier to diferenchate air passages from blood.

This slide is great, except...isn't their always.

The cover glass thickness is like a window pane.

It works for my 4x and 10x but the 40x dry objectives is muddy. I can "focus" without contacting the cover glass but the spiracle aberration is extreme.

My 40x wet works fine.

I haven't even bothered to try my 100x oil as it has a working distance of .1 and I am fairly sure I would contact the cover glass before focus.

I checked on youtube the other night and found this video

For a while I thought he might actually be using a slide from the same batch as mine.

I can't imagine studying histology without youtube.

It must have been tedious and expensive for all the books.

For those new to it, it is said that all histology slides look the same and they do until videos like this show you how to understand what you are looking at.
