This mechanical stage is from an old cast iron Bausch and Lomb metallurgical style microscope that I bought off Fleabay as a parts scope... as it turned out, there was more good in the scope than bad so, it turned into a "restoration" - in true hoarder style, now I'm buying Fleabay accessories for *this* parts scope... at any rate...
Shown in the first pic is the stationary side of the slide holder that was bare brass yet the edges and back (where it attaches to the mechanism) were painted with the matching paint from B&L. The bare brass looks odd to me and, as a compromise ended up "blueing" it (shown in the second pic). The blueing also touched up the worn edges of the vernier scales painting. It seems odd to me that leaving this in bare brass would've been done at the factory - any opinions or rationale about this?
In the second photo, the reddish blotches at the top of the blued brass are a lighting artifact of the tiny MP camera I used.

Re: Sensitive "Restoration" of Antique Slide Holder
Interesting, hadn't noticed before but the one I have been cleaning up also has a different finish on that part. No idea what the reason might be.

None of mine have bare brass. Maybe someone spilled something on it.

Hans, that does appear to be a similar treatment! I'm glad you showed that... and BramHunting, I do think that someone attempted to polish that portion of the holder since they discovered it is brass.
