Here’s an interesting Carl Zeiss Jena microscope.
I can find almost no info about it in English.
My best guess would be 1920 to 1930, based on when American manufacturers switched from brass to rhodium or chromium or whatever Zeiss and Bosch and Lomb used. Spenser crowed about rhodium. I can’t believe they didn’t have an eye on what the European manufacturers were doing.
I suppose, as the older men who preferred brass were leaving, they all encouraged the black and chrome finish which doesn’t require lacquer.
I thought I saw an almost identical scope with black and rhodium finish on all bright work on the auction site,

If anyone has a date s/n list for Zeiss, or a catalog page, I would be interested in knowing more about this one.

According to the Gubas book of Zeiss microscopes, the serial number matches to 1927. They made both a DSG and DSB models and yours with the circular stage matches with the DSB. The D stands were made between 1925 to 1932.

Very nice condition 20's stand. Too bad it has all those non-original optics. I read that the European stands became popular in N.A. because they were smaller than North American stands, yet had equivalent performance. They took up less space on a crowded lab table. 20TH century miniaturization at work. By 1905 or so the North American makers had brought their stsnds down to size and fallen into line with R.M.S. standards as they were. The height of stands dropped and parfocal distance was down to mid 30mm. Previously both B & L and C.Spencer had been using 8 1/2 " tubes and objectives about as long as modern 45mm D.I.N. ones. Some of those exist for the 8 1/2" tubes and some for 160mm. For a while in the 1890's at Spencer the measure was an option. Probably at other companies too.

I had another brass Zeiss objective in the parts box, so I’m watching the Bay to see if the other two float by.
Not a daily sight, I’m sure.
I’m building up another Axioskop first.

I have the original 8X .20 for it if you are interested...... and an old brass 1.30 oil immersion, that works well. I think i is a 2mm but not marked for magnification. I did test it and if I recall correctly it was 98X.
