It actually did not take long at all from China... I will power it up tomorrow and post some photos here of it in operation..

I tried doing something similar with a 6w version on the Labomed LB-592.
I removed the halogen bulb and replaced it with the 6w LED.

Two major problems.
1 - The LED lamp is round and only 1/3 of the LED's faced the condensing lens.
2 - 1/3 of the LED's do not emit enough light to do anything practical.

A minor problem was the LED was not dimmable. It could dim in three steps.

Net result, one 6w LED sitting on a shelf.
In retrospect, I should have known a 6w LED was no replacement for a 100w halogen lamp.

Edit: It is a 100w halogen, not 10w.

2w if only a third of the LEDs were facing in the right direction.

I have seen the light!

I tried the LED on a 12VDC switching power supply and it works.
I will somehow put it in an old housing and try it as a light source for my grinding area AJ Optiks microscope.

More to come...

The one I have says 15 - 25W equivalent to incandescent... I thought I might put some kind of reflector behind it to maybe increase the amount of light... Of course it could not be as bright as a 100W Halogen.. I paid a whole $0.97 with free shipping for it so if it does not pan out I will not be out anything... I just thought that one of these may work somewhere 12V and a G4 socket is available... I have a 50W halogen here for comparison... I have a PWM unit here for dimming...

I am not sure what the LED watt to incandescent watt ratio is, but 1 LED watt is approx. 80-100 lumens.

I must have been eating mushrooms when I thought the $2.00 6w LED would replace my halogen light.

More to come...

I do know that here, a 1W star LED is bright enough for use with my Leitz stand... The 3W ceiling LED is more than enough light.. Actually I have to dim it to civilized level...

Looks like you can continue to eat popcorn... The performance of the 2W bulb was kind of puny compared to a 50W halogen.. For what it is worth:

The 50W was so bright that it forced the camera to darken the pic.. Both were taken at the same room lighting...
