Adapter for telescope can be used for microscope?

#1 Post by pasotteo » Fri Jan 15, 2021 6:33 pm

Hi everybody and good evening!
I'm looking for a complete system (ring and adapter tube) to connect a Canon EOS 70d to a Science Bresser Infinity through trinocular c-Mount 23,2 mm tube.
All systems on the market cost a lot.
Do you think it is possible to use this tube even if it is designed for telescopes? :D

Be careful there. Most of the things I've seen for telescopes are based upon a 24mm diameter rather than 23 .

There isn't much I've found from astronomy which carries over. Even the smallest of the standard eyepieces, the lowly 0.965 is still too large for most microscopes as that would be 24.5mm.

I have recently acquired the proper optics and tubes to use my Nikon DSLR. I have yet to get results as good as my kludged together eyepiece projection system though. I used the standard T-ring and adaptor plus the 1.25" tube used for telescope focuser insertion. It seems the 1.25" tube just fits over the microscope eyepieces I use and the eyepiece image is pretty far in the tube (Have not measured where the image sits though). I need to work with the 23mm tubes and optics some more. Here are a couple shots using the kludged telescope adaptor (afocal)..............

Here is the adapter YRMV as far as eyepiece fit. https://www.walmart.com/ip/YLSHR-1-25-A ... /879016827

Some of the 1 1/4" cheap telescope adapters work great as microscope adapters, where the adapter is going to be used on a 23.2 mm photo tube or eyepiece tube. Better than similar microscope adapters which go inside the tube because they allow for the capture of a larger field.
The adapter has to have a minimum interior diameter large enough to fit over the photo tube or eyepiece tube. You then drill and tap it for 3 centering locking thumbscrews. I have used nylon ones usually. There is a tendency to over tighten them and the possibility of denting the eyepiece tube. Plastic or nylon will alleviate that problem.
The basic of such adapters is a 1 1/4" tube dead ending in a T thread , from which you can build up to your bayonet of choice. Using a helicoid as a distance piece helps with frame sizing.
