Bh2 teaching bridge to rotating polarizer conversion

#1 Post by Scarodactyl » Sun Aug 22, 2021 5:15 am

A while back I switched over from an Olynpus stm measuring stand to a Nikon um2 measurescope for my main rig, but I still have the STM. It's a great, super solid base and I was thinking of setting it up with mitutoyo objectives as a second reflected light setup to sell. It's so darn heavy it barely makes sense to sell and ship it just on its own.
One downside to that plan was the stand needs a spacer between the head and mount (normally provided by an illuminator). But I didn't want to waste space with a totally empty tube. One feature I'd like on my own but don't yet have is a rotating analyzer. I happened to have a broken teaching bridge and thought this might be a good use for it. I removed the internal prisms and window, and designed a 3d printed holder for the filter. It rotates 80 degrees (unfortunately I couldn't quite squeeze in 90), and slides in or out with an internal rail stopping it before it comes all the way out.
Anyway, it was a fun project and it works nicely.
