Alignment bolts needed

#1 Post by Plasmid » Tue Mar 01, 2022 12:51 am

Any idea on what size or type of bolt is used on the rear mirror alignment mechanism found on Leitz, Reichert... Pretty much early 80s late 70s design.? They are practically the same mechanism so they can be transferred from one design to another. The recent acquisition came with the two bolts snapped., Its a 4.0mm width with two small recess slots for the retaining E clamps on the distal end.

It is unlikely that the AO/Reichert lamphouse has anyyhing to do with Leitz, since the two companies were totally distinct until the merger, then no more Leitz. It is entirely possible that AO used imperial studs on that too. Many of the threads on AO stuff were imperial, although metric fittings crept in over the years, especially where a component originated in Wien. Best put a thread guage on it.

This might be just a coincidence, but the Laborlux K and Diastar have identical mechanism, down to hole placement, size etc. Im not familiar with their history, but it looks like this was a product that might had been outsourced or a product of a merger or patent infringement ( speculation) Im no not sure how far apart the Diastar and Laborlux 12 were apart

Aside from a few extra washers on the Leitz, its identical.

Ill make sure to sure a gauge, Running to the hardware store ti see what I can conjure up
Thank you Phil

The Diastar would have been mfg. from 85 or 86 on, prior to any obvious relationship between the two companies. I'm guessing that the design, being fairly logical might not be patentable ori it could have run out if it was and might show up elsewhere too. AO might likely have pilfered the design from a Leitz. Some dimensions and construction specs. don't look exactly the same. Metal guage, spring coil diameter. AO's knobs are the same as the series 100 control panel knobs going back to 1980. Paint vs. anodization. The AO version looks shallower and the reflector mounting collar looks recessed on the Leitz. Similar but not the same, maybe?
What about the threads? Are all those the same ?
