AO Series 10 Trinocular Camera Mount

#1 Post by GerryR » Mon Jan 02, 2023 3:49 pm

I finally acquired a trinocular head for my Series 10 'scope and decided to try to make a mount for an Amscope MU130 (1.3Mp) camera that I had and used on a Stereo 'scope. I know there are many here that like to make their own accessories, so I thought I would include the dimensions of what I came up with to help others if they want to attempt making one. The camera came with a 0.37X adapter, which is perfect for the equivalent FOV with the 10X eyepieces. If you have any questions, ask away.

(Edited: I noticed I had a couple of wrong dimensions so modified the sketch.)

Nice job on the photo tube.

I assume that the eyepieces you are using are the cat.# 176, which have a 19mm f.o.v.
Perhaps you could clarify the sensor size on your camera because a .37X adapter is pretty low. Anyone using a larger sensor would need different optics.

The normal eyepiece used in a stock AO photo tube for a full frame sensor is that same standard W.F. visual eyepiece. The respective photo framing eyepieces from the series 10/20 and series 110/120 with the reticle removed, also work well. The 437 gives a 20mm f.o.v. as would the #180 but their 20mm f.o.v. is a little too much for the #1019 10X planachro, giving planarity falloff at the field stop.

For an APS-C ( Sony size) I use one if those eyepieces as well, which gives full field coverage diagonally using a 16:9 aspect ratio.
