Phase Telescope from Eyepieces

#1 Post by GerryR » Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:00 pm

I believe I read that two eyepieces can be used to get an image of the phase rings for alignment and verification, so I gave it a try. (I believe Phil-Apochronaut was the one that stated this.) I took a piece of 1" plastic pipe and came up with the following that works pretty well. At least it is better than nothing. It actually gives a pretty nice image of the annuli. I just used the 10x AO 161 eyepiece already in the 'scope, and I had a 15x AO 147 eyepiece as the second unit. The 'scope is an AO Fifty-Phase, and the following pictures show what I came up with. I included a sketch with dimensions if anyone is interested.

One of those situations where a picture is worth 1000 words, should be helpful.
