Really beautiful. Reminds me of a kiwi wedge
Really beautiful. Reminds me of a kiwi wedge
It comes from the salty lagoon of the Mar Menor (Murcia)

Nice! Probably Frontonia (cell shape distorted by a strand of ingested cyanobacteria).

I don't think so, it has cilia all over its periphery

Frontonia is uniformly ciliated (cilia all around), and also has trichocysts around the perimeter of the cortex (which we can see, here). The distortion of the cell--a strand of cyanobacteria altering its shape--is absolutely typical of the genus. It's been well documented in the literature, and I have often observed it myself. Here's a paper from a hundred years ago, with illustrations showing Frontonia consuming oscillatoria (and the resulting changes in the cell shape): https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs ... 1400360305
