Saltwater algae monster

#1 Post by Atlant » Tue Jun 16, 2015 8:53 am

Hi there

In my brine shrimp tank I found this animal here. It is 100 micro metres long. The salinity in the tank is 8%. The animal tries to eat an alga but does not succeed.

Can anybody tell me what animal species this is?

Thanks.

PS:
In the tank was a similar looking animal of the same size. Its body seems to be twisted. Is it the same species?

I can not help much as I have only ever observed in freshwater.
However I can say that both creatures look the same to me.

I agree with 75RR. I could not determine what it is by looking at images of protozoa. It appears that many freshwater critters have saltwater counterparts or can live in both environments (I'm not sure which).
