Holophrya sp. ?

#1 Post by rhiannontries » Tue May 25, 2021 6:41 am

Was feeling lazy and uploaded the footage without cutting any of the jerky stage movements out. Sorry about that.

The question is as the title says: is this ciliate a member of the genus Holophrya?

Yes, Holophrya (apical cytostome with nematodesmata, ovoid macronucleus, terminal CV). It is probably H. discolor, but to be sure we'd want to see the ciliary rows well enough for an approximate count.
