I have no idea
found this in a sample from the Savannas Preserve - a rainwater fed freshwater marsh system on Florida's east coast - the shallow near shore area is dominated by reeds and water lilies, lots of floating masses of Utricularia and Spirogyra

hmmm...hadn't thought of that. Thank you! After all the desmids and other green algae and cyanobacteria I was seeing in the sample...maybe even a sporangium of some kind, I'll have to see if I can find some more and what is flowering (most likely a Utricularia, I didn't notice any water lily flowers)

Looks a lot like Phacus. If so it might be swimming in a sort of corkscrew motion. There are many different kinds with many different names. Maybe Phacus gigas, but hey, I'm not sure. I recognize maybe 1 percent of these things.
Good luck.
