Quite Possibly Tapeworm Eggs, Right?

#1 Post by 43r74n » Tue Sep 07, 2021 1:05 pm

Hi,

First post, so I hope I've come to the right place (or right section).

I'm no expert, but I think these are worm eggs. All taken from urine samples.

Taenia? A bit small, though. Only 10–22µm.

What do you think?

Depending on what animal the urine came from, and where you are from, I would look for for
more appropriate established services capable of providing you with an accurate i.d. of what you are seeing, than an internet microscope forum.

I will.

Those sources are, however, infamously slow to react.

And the animal in question is a Homo sapiens.

While this may indeed look like worm eggs, I would not attempt to identify it, especially if this came from a human. It calls more for diagnosis than identification. I doubt you'll find anyone on the forum capable of diagnosis. The things we do are enjoyable and informative but the human involved here needs a doctor and I doubt anyone here fills the bill.
Thanks for the interesting photos. One looks ready to hatch.

It's not tape worms. This is what tapeworm eggs look like, from a tape worm I found.

We don't offer diagnoses here, and it's against the site's rules to ask for them. We're generally not physicians and not qualified to give medical opinions.

Thanks for the input!

Compare and contrast the eggs of T. spp. and D. latum.

They don't look the same. Not even close.

Thanks for the heads-up, but I'm not looking for, nor have I asked for, a diagnosis!

Tapeworms are a pathogen and their infection is typically diagnosed by recognizing the eggs.

Tape worms and worms in general do not attack or infect the bladder and urinary track but rather the intestinal tracts. It would be extremely rare to find worm eggs in human urine unless of course the urine sample was indeed contaminated with feces.

There will be exclusive clubs dedicated to just such possibilities but without wishing to give advice they are probably best avoided on health grounds.

How nice… but you're right (as well as a microbial dick), actually!!

I took diagnosis in this context to mean medical diagnosis, not simply to express an opinion in relation to the symptom of a disease in any way.

I guess the point of that rule is to protect patient safety. Then let me be crystal clear: the healthcare of NOBODY is in any way, shape, or form affected by what anyone says in this thread!

Personally, I found these objects to be interesting (whatever they are).

I see.

Hmm, the plot thickens…

What I don't get is that there's this weird-ass intestinal fungal infection (or something) that seems to wreak havoc on everything!

Not sure what to make of that…
