Nematode and Friends

#1 Post by Elapid » Wed Apr 27, 2022 11:00 pm

My image is a sample I collected from a very decomposed and moist pine tree stump in a deep Appalachian hollow. The image I’m posting is a very enlarged and cropped portion of a much larger image which shows most of the body of a nematode. I believe the nematode is C. elegans. I would like to identify the round, clustered structures with complex contents. Could these be developing nematode eggs? Or could they be germinating fungal spores? There are a number of elliptical spores around the central cluster. One of the round structures on the left side of the mass has contents which seem to be a folded tubular embryo. Am I reading too much into this?
The technique is DIC with a 20x objective and using focus stacking.
I appreciate any suggestions and comments.
