Unidentified ciliate binary fission

#1 Post by krispenhartung » Tue May 31, 2022 1:05 am

Last one for the day, I promise! I haven’t got any takers on this one on my Instagram feed. Any guesses on what genus of ciliate?
Also, I assume this is the endpoint or at least getting close to the detachment stage of binary fission vs conjugation. I’m basing this based on the symmetrical look of the dyad.

Yes, this is binary fission. The ciliate is a species of Frontonia, likely F. acuminata. A dark pigment spot is visible in the anterior divider (proter).
