A member of the group of flat, burrowing sea urchins known as sand dollars, Clypeasteroida.

Perhaps a type of Limpet shell. There is something called a Keyho!e Limpet that has a hole or slit in it's shell.

You think that might be whst it is then? Odd arrangement of slits. Quite symmetrical

As I said above, it's a sand dollar. Specifically, a keyhole sand dollar, i.e. one of three species in the genus Mellita.
