ID - a bouquet of cysts

Anyone got a clue what this structure might be? I have the feeling that the stalk and cluster of round objects (cysts maybe) are two completely independent structures that just happened to be together in this shot. I've never seen such a thing before.

Nice image, Wess!

When I saw it my first thought was some kind of Testa Amoebas, but I have never seen them in such arrangement.
