Behaves like a rotifer but looks different

#1 Post by macnmotion » Thu Dec 08, 2022 12:45 am

From a freshwater sample. 40x objective. Behaves like most rotifers I've seen, but this one is longer and thinner but has cilia along half the length of it's body. Can anyone ID?

In another thread I posted a video from the same sample that looked like a small rotifer, but is a ciliate inside a sleeve. I think it's likely that it also is stichotricha, just not sticking out as far. Very cool, you helped solve 2 mysteries.

Glad I could help, sometimes they leave their house and you can see them free-swimming.
But look for their very specific front with the long cilia.
