Very long ciliate

#1 Post by macnmotion » Sat Dec 24, 2022 4:15 pm

I found this in my fresh water sample. Can anyone identify it? I've included views using a 10x objective (brightfield and phase contrast) and then I tacked on a short sequence using the 40x, but I'm not sure it's the same thing -- it's not as long.

It might be Dilepttus (elephant).

Litonotus cygnus, an extremely contractile/extensile species.

It's really quite amazing to see the degree it can extend.

Skinny Mini, she's not skinny. She's tall.

Well a long neck on that.

I seldom see one of those which isn't moving so much I give up on chasing it.
