Anyone know what the yellow globules are?

Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
What size is the second image? Could be eggs (I don't think so) or fat globulars. Both give excellent detail.

Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
Thanks for the tip! Found this:I'll put my dime on lipids.
Abstract:
A detailed study of the lipids of selected zooplankton species and scavenging amphipods in the near-bottom water layer (15-100 m above bottom, mab) was carried out at the BENGAL site in late summer 1998. Copepoda were the main contributors to the zooplankton, comprising 75% of the total abundance, followed by Ostracoda and Chaetognatha. Calanoid copepods of the family Metridinidae were predominant and accounted for more than 50% of all copepods.
Two types of storage lipids were distinguished: triacylglycerols and wax esters. Ostracoda and the polychaete Vanadis sp. stored exclusively triacylglycerols whilst the bulk of the Copepoda accumulated wax esters, with the exception of the family Aetideidae. In the amphipods both lipid classes were found: Eurythenes gryllus stored wax esters and Paralicella spp. and Orchomene sp. triacylglycerols.

Cool, I took a limnology class, way back when...A detailed study...

Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
I recorded similar-looking orange/yellow lipid droplets in an Aelosoma worm as well (fast-forward 1:52 of my video and you would see many of those driplets around its head):

Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
Thought those were just characteristic colour spots of the Aeolosoma sp. , though on your video they do look more like globules.I recorded similar-looking orange/yellow lipid droplets in an Aelosoma worm as well ...
Perhaps it is a bit of both?

Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
Sometimes when an organism starts out alive and intact on my slide...well if I'm not careful...coverslip and myself cause a rupture...often small oil droplets coalesce to larger drops...as the injured organism dies from the squash. Charlie guevara
Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
Interesting, will keep an eye out to find out if they are "normally" visible. Unfortunately only trapped Ostracods can be observed with any detail. Chicken and egg?...often small oil droplets coalesce to larger drops...

Re: Yellow globules in Ostracod
Hi, 75RR...1.5% methylcellulose 50/50 with specimen fluid...handles these adults, the even faster nauplii...and other fast swimmers.
And you can easily use a non-coverslip slide of these meiofauna with no coverslip at 10X mag...err...I might even use 20X objective...I don't recall. The coverslip does,nt automatically crush these organisms..it's just if fluid volume under the slip get's too low.
Give it a try...vial of methylcellulose is low cost. Charlie guevara

75RR: super images. Very beautiful.
Aeolosoma , at least in my experience, often shows reddish orange pigmentation like that.

Hello, what microscope do you have and what objectives do you use for these 2 pictures?, looks very clear.
