Identification of Bacteria in Biofilm

#1 Post by Caroline91 » Mon Apr 15, 2024 1:31 pm

Due to the complex and the heterogeneous biofilm matrix, the identification of infections caused by biofilms is extremely challenging. Infections caused by biofilms are difficult to cure because the biofilm matrix provides bacteria physical protection from antibiotic treatment. In medicine, the rapid detection and identification of biofilmsl is particularly important. It can provide key information for the early diagnosis and effective treatment of infections.

However, due to its inherent physiological heterogeneity, the identification of bacterial species in biofilms becomes difficult. Traditional biofilm detection methods usually require several days, because these methods rely on culturing and have low sensitivity. Therefore, accurate and rapid identification methods are urgently needed to promote our understanding of biofilms.

The gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-based multichannel sensor can identify bacterial species and even strains in biofilms based on the physicochemical properties of biofilms. This technology has been used to successfully identify and distinguish the biofilm formed by pathogenic and nonpathogenic bacteria。
