My Favorite Non-microscope Microscopy Related Tool

#1 Post by ebenbildmicroscopy » Wed Feb 17, 2021 10:34 pm

I bought this Leitz slide ringing table several years ago and had forgotten I had it. I acquired it in anticipation of making diatom exhibition slides and hope to someday learn how to use it. I surmise that it is the pattern that the Brunel slide ringing table casting is based on... BEAUTIFULLY made!! The stage is nickel plated brass.

Isn’t it strange that a little knurled rim is provided ... but he spins it at the table-top

If that weren't a Brunel created video, I would assume he just voided the warranty by avoiding that little knurl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's like some little ole lady quilters I know... the knurling helps you develop a "slide ringing callus!"

I have a Brunel ringing table, very well made.
However, if the round coverslip of your slide is not exactly in the center the ringing table will not work.
The gap between the edge of round table and the stand is small, the slide cannot overlap the edge by more than a few mm.
I have many slides with the specimen mounted to the right of center so as to make room on the left side of the slide for a large descriptive label.
My original ringing table, since lost, had the actual table just above the hand rests, one on each side - very nice system.
I have modified Brunel's new table by using a longer shaft so that the table is now above the hand rest; will now accommodate off-center slides.
