AX70 MCB Connector (80p)

#1 Post by microb » Mon Mar 22, 2021 4:10 am

I'm on the hunt for the 80-pin DB connector used on the back of the AX70's MCB. The 80-pin scsi looks so close, but is a tiny bit more narrow as shown on the bottom, compared with the MCB connector on the top. The bottom one is too narrow: DigiKey sells it as this: H123187-ND
DX10-80S(50) CONN 1.27MM PITCH HIDENSITY
If anyone has a part number, please let me know. It's probably an old discontinued Hirose connector.

They are the same width, and a male cable will slightly jam in, but note the side rectangular posts for the cable to grab onto. Those are very different.

.

My wild guess is that the “too narrow” item has been manufactured to 1.25mm pitch, instead of the specified 1.27mm ... I think it would be wise to do a physical check.

There are some notes about SCSI connectors here: https://kb.iu.edu/d/aiqw
... maybe a good place to start your search for a detailed drawing.
... presumably [hopefully] Olympus would have used a top quality SCSI connector for the job.

I think this connector pre-dates the 68 and 80 pin dbs used for SCSI. I'll double check the pitch, but they appear to run the same length for 40 pins. So the pitch looks to be the same. The difference is that Olympus used a wider spacing between the opposing rows of 40-pins. I got some 80-pin SCSI female connectors and the Oly cable doesn't fit.

Sorry ... I obviously misinterpreted

“... but is a tiny bit more narrow .. ”

You meant narrow in height ... I thought you meant narrow in width

Yeah, I meant in height.

It's so close, but once again nope.
