What is this epi illuminator?

#1 Post by Ilikeplants » Wed Oct 27, 2021 7:25 pm

Hi all I am relatively new to all this. Could anyone tell me what brand this guy is? I have been searching all over the place. The seller eluded that it might be an omax but I haven’t seen anything similar. I am suspecting it is another Chinese company though. Any thoughts?

The triangle trademark looks very much like that of Guangzhou Light Holdings which manufacturers lighting apparatus and is located in a locus of Chinese optical manufacturing. Could be a coincidence.

The "B" and "G" suggest it's a fluorescence illuminator - as does the power supply. And, as already said, likely a lower-quality Asian import from the looks of it. Not sure I'd trust whatever cubes might be in it - and whatever mercury lamp it might have coupled to that power supply -- for fluorescence work. It's remotely possible there is a brightfield cube in it.

If you want halogen epi illumination there are likely better bits to modify for that purpose.

It looks similar to one of these:
