handy cross table solution for stereo microscope

#1 Post by legionair » Sun Jan 08, 2023 5:18 pm

I was thinking of buying a cross table for my stereo microscope.
There was one little problem:how to keep my polarization lens in place? So I found out that a transparent plasic box lit does a great job.
No spills on the microscope, easy to find the spot you are looking for and usable for slides and the filter set-up and now I can even rotate the object while looking at it.

Interesting idea! Am I looking at this wrong; if you flip the lid over so the edges are sitting on the base, and presumably clearing the lower filter, wouldn't that allow you to move the specimen around by moving the lid? Just a thought.

turning the lid over would make a difference. now I can control the "table" with two fingers. if I want to flip the lid I first have to remove the hinges and the free rotation would be limited(the table could slip off or tilt) so I'll just keep it as it is until my 3mm glass table is ready.

So is the lid actually sitting on the lower filter(?), and you are able to rotate and move the specimen by moving the lid over the lower filter(?).

No,it is plastic lid on the microscope table.and then on top of the lid: filter, slide, filter.
