This book referenced by the Reichert Diastar/Microstar IV phase contrast manual is out of copyright and freely available.

Thanks for the link, Hans

Just noticed the byline at the end of the preface showing Alva Bennett's position as director of research at American Optical. Make sense why it would be the reference cited in the Reichert manual.

I also downloaded the PDF initially, but it appears to have had some additional processing/compression applied that blurred out thin parts of letters, quite an eyesore to read. The images displayed in the web viewers look better, I think, as do the ones in the "SINGLE PAGE PROCESSED JP2 ZIP" download from archive.org.

The hardcover should be available through Abe Books.. I bought one for 8.00 and it came from England, of all places.
The book dates from the late 40's , when the AO labs were heavily into the potential of phase.

The Indian pharmaceutical industry is relentless. Apparently though, only Germans use microscopes ( and wiener pills and have cancer)
