Looking for Leica Wild M10 user/service manual

Hi!

I was lucky to snag a Wild Leica M10 Stereomicroscope recently, but I'm having no luck finding a user manual or service manual. I've contacted Leica in Heerbrugg and they don't have any documentation or spare parts. Online searches didn't lead to any good results. Does anyone here have a copy of the user or service manual (DE/EN/FR)?

Regards,

MJM

Hello!

Wow! I'm jealous. I use one everyday at work but I am in a quest to find one for home that I can afford. I scanned the user manual and converted it to PDF format but the file size is 148 MB. I need to find a way to reduce the file size so that I could send it to you easily if you are interested.

Where did you get it?

Do you have objectives for it? I would be interested in seeing what sort of setup that you have.

I own a Wild M3Z and Wild M8. An M10 would be a perfect addition to my collection :)

Best Regards,

Atariwarrior

If you place it in dropbox and PM me a link I will see by how much I can reduce it by. It is a balance between size and quality.

Yes, pdfs are just a series of jpegs. So, depending on how much jpg compression had been done on the original images, the final pdf will be large or smaller. It looks like your jpgs are perhaps 100% (uncompressed) scans. Just reduce them to, say 85% quality apiece and the aggregate MB will drop down to just a few MB for the whole document without much loss of image quality.

Maybe use a ZIP program to reduce the size considerably?...

I tinkered with my Adobe Acrobat Pro settings and with maximum compression I was able to get it down to 23 MB. I downloaded and installed Mass Image Compressor and compressed the jpgs that I originally scanned to 70% quality. I then went back to Acrobat Pro and created another PDF with the 70% quality images. This created a PDF that is 10 MB in size :) Unfortunately, this is still too big to upload to MicroHunter.com :x The maximum size allowed is 2 MB.

I played more with Acrobat and got the file size to 5.53 MB. This is still too big so I split the file into 5 parts with Acrobat.

You have lost a bit of quality there - can you upload the original (148MB) to something like dropbox and provide a link to it - thanks

Sorry I didn't get back to this sooner. I've enabled email notifications on my account so I don't miss any replies here.

I got the M10 from an italian military surplus dealer. Not easy to deal with, but it worked out in the end.
I think the microscope had a rough life, lots of grime all over and the lenses were foggy. No contrast with any usable amount of light. It came with an f=200mm (441 787) objective for 3.2x-32x that was very hard to remove. Took a few attempts with tools and a rubber band for grip to remove it. I later also bought the 1x Planapo (472 648) for 8x-80x.
After extensive cleaning, inside and out, I'm very happy with it. The build quality is impressive and the whole thing feels bomb proof, although I do baby it now ;)
Let me know if you have any questions. My camera is out for a service at the moment but I can take some pictures in a few weeks if there's interest.

I have managed to get the M10 manual and brochure:

I'm now looking for a phototube and a 1.6x Planapo objective (472 650). Does anyone have experience with these here?

It's a solid microscope! High quality.

Thanks for your manual and brochure.

I would recommend the Leica\Wild Heerbrugg phototubes: 404891 and 180570. I own both of these. The 404891 has better light transmittance in the photo mode. The 180570 loses 50% light transmittance in photo mode but the loss isn't very noticeable. Both of these can be pricey. I bought the 404891 for about $600 from an overseas source. I was lucky enough to be given the 180570 from a friend.

Here's a phototube on EBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-Wild-Mikr ... 1438.l2649

There are some 1.6X Planapo's on EBay. They are very expensive. I have never used one. I have used a 1X Planapo at work and the working distance is very close.
Here's a 1.6X Planapo on EBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEICA-1-6X-0-25 ... 1438.l2649

This lens is supposed to come with a tube that threads on to the barrel of the lens but I've only seen one for sale with this tube once. If you can find it with the tube, I would buy it. It's a rare find.

Good luck!

Hi,

I am again resurrecting an old thread but perhaps that is better than creating new ones all the time?

Anyways, as you have experience on both these phototubes 404891 and 180570, can you think of any aspect where the 180570 would be better than the 404891? Is there an application where you would recommend the 180570 or should one always prefer the 404891?

Thanks,
Riku

I'm sorry for the very late reply.

No. It's better to have more light transmittance. I would chose the 404891 over the 180570.

Do a search on EBay now and you will find three 404891s.

Good luck!

50/50 is nice when you want to take video, or stream video while manipulating a sample. If that isn't something you're likely to need then having 2x the light in your photos makes a difference.
