Wanted: Wild stereo metal hood
Wanted: Wild stereo metal hood
I am looking for one of these hoods that were intended to be used with at least M8 and M7.
Re: Wanted: Wild stereo metal hood
Bump. Still would like to buy one of these. I am intending to build a field stereo system based on a Wild M8 and battery-run LED lights. It would be used for teaching.

While not exactly the same thing, have you considered PVC pipe?
Depnding on the dimensions, you might not need to do any machining.

A pelican case, while much less sexy, is also a good way to transport optics in a controlled way.
Re: Wanted: Wild stereo metal hood
I was also going to suggest that: getting a Zarges case and having a foam shop make some custom inserts to organize the microscope and accessories.

Re: Wanted: Wild stereo metal hood
Thanks for tips guys. I will make use of them while trying to find the proper hood. Being a bit of a purist, I do want to find one at some point My long-term plan is to put together a high-quality system (or a few systems) for my offspring so I want it to be elegant too.
I have found a few of the hoods but they are all being sold together with a Wild M5A which I already have and the sellers refuse to sell the hood separately. So, not able to get anything done. I assume the hoods that came with M5As is identical in height with the one that came with M8? Or at least close enough to work.

Re: Wanted: Wild stereo metal hood
I have only seen one separate hood go up for sale that I remember and it sold very quickly. They're out there but scarce in demand.

Assuming the hoods fit (if you can get measurements), would it be worth getting the set and then selling the M5A on?Rorschach wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 6:33 amI have found a few of the hoods but they are all being sold together with a Wild M5A which I already have and the sellers refuse to sell the hood separately. Yeah, that is the case. I bet a huge number of them have been separated from the scope they originally came with and are now sitting in university store rooms and people's attics. Many probably got sent to metal recycling.Scarodactyl wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 12:22 pmI have only seen one separate hood go up for sale that I remember and it sold very quickly. That's under consideration yes. Would need to secure a reasonable price though.75RR wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 7:03 pmAssuming the hoods fit (if you can get measurements), would it be worth getting the set and then selling the M5A on?Rorschach wrote: ↑Tue Jul 20, 2021 6:33 amI have found a few of the hoods but they are all being sold together with a Wild M5A which I already have and the sellers refuse to sell the hood separately. .
There are two ridges near the bottom, 2cm between them, hood rests on the first one, second one would appear to be there to add stiffness.
Height is 38.5cm and diameter is 21.5cm give or take the odd mm.
Let me know if that is enough info.

Thanks 75RR! I think those measurements are all I need. Please do let me know if you want to part with the hood at some point.
