Have a problem finding shops that sell specific materials? Ask here. Are you looking for microscope parts? Do you have anything to offer for sale? Note: this is not a section for external companies to advertise their products.

Enst Leitz Wetzlar 4mm APO A 0.95 40:1

I've been moving my work area to another room and that means I've had to move all the stuff stored in, on, and around it. I have some odds and ends that I really should find homes for, and this is definitely one of them as I don't have any Leitz scopes. The correction collar moves freely and the optics appear fine to me. I've looked at it under a stereo microscope and put it in a 160mm scope and can't see any problems with it. Asthetically, the chrome is wearing off the body around the correction collar, so I'm betting it saw a lot of use once upon a time.

If you have any interest in it, let me know. It's small enough it could be shipped anywhere for not a lot of money, but at present it is in the USA.
I absolutely hate putting a price on things, but if you offered me $20 (plus shipping) I'd have it out the next day. If you are outside the US, we can figure shipping and adjust accordingly. If you have a serious interest in it but feel $20 is too much then make an offer.

I sold one of those about 5 years ago for 85.00 on ebay. It was in better cosmetic shape than yours.

4mm .95 N.A. apochromats with a correction collar became a standard issue objective througout the microscope industry, beginning as early as 1900, maybe even earlier. Depending on the glasses used and the eventual specs. and math of the design, the magnifications would vary ftom 40X to in one case 47.5X, although that one was 4.3mm I think. Seized collars can be an issue but my Leitz, like yours was free as a bird. I took the time to compare that objective to other similar ones, prior to selling it. The comparators were a Spencer 44X .95 apochromat, and a Bausch & Lomb 45X .95 apochromat. All of them were excellent when used with their native compens eyepieces. The Spencer 44X apochromat probably had the best resolution of the three but the weakest contrast. The B & L 45X the better contrast but weaker resolution. The Leitz 40X was in the middle for each of those performance markers and thus, seemed the more pleasant of the three to use.
