Thanks, Charles. I was totally wrong: I remembered things incorrectly. Sorry about that.Charles wrote:Hi gekko,
There is no lens from the back of the objective to the telescope lens in the viewing body so I believe the distance can be extended anywhere from the back of the objective to the viewing body.

Re: WANTED AO10 QUINTUPLE NOSEPIECE
The 100 series nosepiece is almost 15mm wider, than the series 10/20 nosepiece. By making it 5mm or so deeper, it gives the rotating objective carrier section, sufficient clearance from the 10/20 series arm, when positioned in the reversed( usual) position. AO had a very pronounced design ethic , of allowing for retro and in some cases antero-fitting parts. When they brought out the new 100 series, aside from some slight optical, electronic and ergonomic upgrades, the functionality of the series was really no different than that of the 10/20 series. Conditions, dictated that 5 hole nosepieces would be more the norm than the exception, so it probably made more sense to make more 100 series 5 hole nosepieces, that could be used in both series , than keep up production of the older 5 hole. They weren't that common, so there was probably very little stock overrun, and upgrading , particularly a 20, was way cheaper than replacing it with a 120. They thought in terms of revitalization, rather than replacement.
AO was so early to the party, in fact, they were left holding the door while everyone else entered. They built things to last and had no interest in planned obsolescence. When you are building the best moderately priced lab microscope system in existence, it doesn't make sense to change it much, except for the fact that humans and government are obsessed with new for the sake of new. That insane mentality, finally is changing and the human race is being caught facing the grave consequences of rampant waste and disposal.

That being said (I hate that cliche), Apo, does that mean a 110 5 holer will retro-fit nicly into my 10?

They work great. Actually seem better suited to the job, than the original one. You will likely have to drop your stage on the dovetail a little.
Re: WANTED AO10 QUINTUPLE NOSEPIECE
Thank you Apo, I will get it. I added some interesting pictures I got this morning from one of the dealers
that I asked for pictures. He put the nosepiece for a 10 next to a 110 nosepiece mounted on a 110.
He said they were not compatible. I told him I wanted to put a 110 nosepiece on a 10.
You better believe I'm gonna use that oil obj after all this! (now to go to the I hate my 15X post)
Charles, I need an email adr for paypal, I am searching but just have not found it yet.

Re: WANTED AO10 QUINTUPLE NOSEPIECE
Here's the 100 series nosepiece on a 20, which is the same as a 10 above the base. In this picture, the focus has been racked up to the maximum and there is still enough clearance from the arm. Since the objectives are producing a parallel beam, the extra depth doesn't vignette the image. I tried this out with 22mm f.o.v. oculars with the 40X objective and it gave a perfect image.

Re: WANTED AO10 QUINTUPLE NOSEPIECE
Once I get it all together, what would be a way to check it out?
I am so close to getting this whole operation completed.
Can't wait to post a picture.
Or, is it ever really complete?

Just go ahead and use it, as you used the 4 hole.
Re: WANTED AO10 QUINTUPLE NOSEPIECE
Wow, that new one is nice and shiny. I sent you a PM Dale if you are sure you want the 110 five holer.
Re: WANTED AO10 QUINTUPLE NOSEPIECE
Yup, not much left in the ol' Paypal account now! To be honest,I based a lot of my choice
on Apo's saying the 110 version might even work a little better. I could peek inside the
two of them, who knows?
Thanks everybody,
Dale
