wanted: leica stereo head with adjustable iris
Re: wanted: leica stereo head with adjustable iris
FWIW, the Wild/Leica irises for their surgical microscopes sometimes shows up at modest prices and can be modified to fit a stereo scope. I've done it once and found the iris works well with just it between a regular head and the body. However, it begins to intrude on the corners of the image when closed down at higher magnifications if there is an additional intermediate piece added between the head and body. For visual use, just an iris and a regular head might be an option.
The whole head - such as the auction you missed - is a better solution since the iris portion ends up thinner and less likely to intrude even with something like a photo port added on.

Re: wanted: leica stereo head with adjustable iris
The part you linked would likely work - you'd want to check with the seller on the dovetail diameter. If you were handy, it might also provide a camera port.
The part I modified looked more like this - same dovetail as the Wild M3,M8 etc. scopes. I cut off the bracket see at the top, added a Leica-sized dovetail to the bottom:
The head you linked earlier that sold looked to be a bargain and incorporates an iris that is less likely to vignette if you add a photo tube. However, unless you need that style for ergonomic reasons, I can say from personal experience it is a lot more likely to have problems (alignment, difficulty cleaning, etc.) than straight tubes.

This is a full beamsplitter, for attaching camera ports or surgical accessories. Many photo ports will also have an iris.wild2020 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 28, 2021 1:39 amHi, thanks for the info would that be something like this?

Why do you want an iris?
