Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Hi,
I have a Zeiss Axioskop 50 equipped with a Plan-NEOFLUAR 1,25x/0,035 infinity/- objective.
The skope is equipped with a Zeiss achromatic-aplanatic condenser 0.9 Ph DIC (44 52 41). PICS of my setup below
The problem is that I cannot have correct illumination of whole field of view when using the Plan-NEOFLUAR 1,25x objective.
The Zeiss axioskop manual states that I need to use a 1.25x auxiliary lens that fits inside the turret of the phase condenser to have full field of view illumination when using that 1.25X objective.
I am looking to buy a Zeiss 1.25x Auxiliary Lens. Part number is Zeiss 44 52 65.
I think the mounted auxiliary lense has a total diameter of 24 mm (including the ring where the lens is mounted, but I have never been able to find a picture of the Zeiss part 44 55 62 (only found the part refered to in the Zeiss Axioskop manual). Please let me know if you have this part for sale,
Thanks in advance,
Matador

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Apparently, there was a patent about this auxiliary lens system too:
MatadorRe: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Here is what the patent document talks about... I need this weird auxiliary lense highlighted in yellow (Zeiss part 44 52 65): It is a "negative (convex-concave) meniscus lens"

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
This auxiliary lens 1.25 (44 52 65) should fit in this aplanatic-achromatic zeiss phase condenser (44 52 41)(4 positions). I have the exact same one but these pics are from eBay.
Looking to buy this Ziess 44 52 65 auxiliary lens to fit this zeiss phase/DIC condenser.

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Zeiss would probably charge a premium for that lens...
1. have you tried to use the objective without any condenser ? how bad could that be ?
2. Here is a way to spend $15 (US price) on a negative meniscus lens of diameter ~24mm, not that I could tell if the focal length is good ( )
https://www.ebay.com/itm/114227340494?h ... xyJX1TAPch
At least, it is made of glass, rather than zinc selenide or some other IR-relevant material
BTW - are the colorful stains on the periphery of the aperture leaves dried oil, or deterioration of black coating ?
Sorry - I just saw that similar to my no 1 suggestion above has already been posted by PeteM and Apochronaut.

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Thanks for the reply,
1. I tried using the 1.25x objective with no condenser at all and it works perfect... I get 100% field of view illumination... Just a bit annoying, as I jump from one objective mag to the other multiple times every minutes.
2. Interesting lens... I guess I need to figure out the focal distance.
Not even sure that zeiss still could find this lens if they do have a new old stock inventory.

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
I believe the auxiliary lense (44 52 65) fits in position "1" or "2" (which are the positions that can also accomodate phase ring diaphragms), but not in position "H/DIC" or "DIC" (which are meant to accomodate DIC prisms and also have integrated iris diaphragms). So the auxiliary lens (44 52 65) would fit in these "1" or "2" positions:

I'll try to take measurments this week end of these positions to try and find what shoud be the size of that auxiliary lens (44 52 65)Matador

[Picture from eBay seller #1] Yes I saw this one, but I'm not sure it's the right kind. The seller does not advertise the lens diameter so I'm not sure it would fit in the condenser turret.PeteM wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:59 amPerhaps (???):

I also saw another seller selling this ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/283936887880 ) , but it seems to be for the Zeiss Photomicroscope, the Ziess Universal microscope and the Zeiss standard miscroscope (all older scopes with fixed tube lenghts, not infinity corrected systems).

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
This is NOT the right lens (NOT compatible with the Axioskop infinity corrected system). I found out that this specific lens on eBay is 1.25 inch (32 mm) diameter wide (too wide for the 24mm slot in the phase condenser turret):PeteM wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 6:59 amPerhaps (???):

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
That is a Zeiss finite system auxiliary lens, there is a N˚I and a N˚II, they are designed to be placed under the condenser in a filter holder and are therefore 32mm.Matador wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 1:15 amIt's not the right lense. Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
Are you sure it fits 'in' the turret rather than as most auxiliary lens do, in a filter holder slung under the condenser?

Both the highlighted text, and the patent drawing, seem pretty explicit

Missed that! Seems a shame to use up a slot though.

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
That's a good point. Personally, I don't use darkfield illumination, phase contrast or DIC in my work (I do anatomic pathology and cytology) so it would not matter much to me. But the microscope is good, relatively rare to find fully equipped, and I could experiment a bit more in the future with these additionnal illumination techniques.
For the Axioskop, Zeiss actually used to offered two phase contrast condenser possibilities:
Option 1 : The Condenser 0,9 Ph HD with swing-in front lens (44 52 36), which had 4 positions in it's rotatable turret, including 3 positions ("1", "2" and "3") for phase contrast ring diaphragms and one position ("H") for Brightfield.
Option 2 : which is the condenser I have, is the aplanatic-achromatic 0,9 Ph DIC condenser (44 52 41) with swing in front lens. This 4 positions condenser has 2 positions ("1" and "2") for phase contrast ring diaphragms, one position ("DIC") for DIC and one position (called "H/DIC") for either Brightfield or DIC.
The "H" position in condenser 44 52 36 or both "DIC" and "H/DIC" positions in condenser 44 52 41 have their own dedicated adjustable iris diaphragms. On the other hand, positions "1", "2" and "3" of condenser 44 52 36, or positions "1" and "2") of condenser 45 52 41 do not have iris diaphragms, but they have centerable apertures (with phase centering screws) to properly align the phase contrast ring diaphragms that they can accomodate. In addition to that, it is possible to put a either a darkfield diaphragm (44 52 99) or a 1.25 Auxiliary lens (44 52 65) in condenser turret ports "1", "2" (or "3" ) instead of the phase rings. Meaning the auxiliary lens (or darkfield diphargm) can also be properly aligned with adjusting the phase centering screws (in addition to the whole condenser which can be aligned for Kohler illumination using the knurled Kohler alignment screws). As for DIC, Zeiss used to offer two DIC prisms for these condensers :(44 52 73) and (44 52 74).

Re: Need Ziess 1.25x Auxiliary lens (part number 44 52 65)
To my understanding, this Auxiliary lens 1.25x (44 52 65) works like this (you rotate the condenser turret to get the auxiliary lens 1.25x in the light path and lower the swing-in/swing-out "front lens" when you need to use the Plan-NEOFLUAR 1.25x objective):

I'm still looking/searching to find this unobtainable Zeiss "Auxiliary lens 1.25x" (44 52 65). I even posted this on a Zeiss facebook group that was recommend to my by MichealG.Matador
