WTB: Mirror for B&L Dynoptic
WTB: Mirror for B&L Dynoptic
Looking for one that fits this style stand:

No luck on eBay so far but pointers would be appreciated if anyone knows of a relevant listing. Please help me avoid buying another Dynoptic! I really don't need another stand but individual parts seem pretty scarce and mostly-complete stands are sometimes very cheap.

Re: WTB: Mirror for B&L Dynoptic
That style dynoptic had two styles of mirror. One was just a post that stuck into a round hole, the other had a square bracket that slipped around the focus block. I think yours is the post style.
Having built three lamps and refurbishing two others my advice would be to get the optilume and forget about the field iris. If you need something to focus on for Kohler drape a thing wire over the light. Mirrors can be a frustrating heartache and require a time investment for learning how to use what was a completely obsolete technology by the fifties. If really needed, this will likely work although may need some electric tape to act as a bushing.

Also, you would still need a excellent light source with a focusable field lens with a mirror.

Good to know, I wasn't sure how exactly the mirror was supposed to mount or if I might be missing something. Mine has no obvious extra mounting or screw holes in that area but does have a shallow rectangular channel on each side at the bottom of the stand just below the condenser rack. (First attached photo.) Would that be for the square bracket style?BramHuntingNematodes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 2:17 amThat style dynoptic had two styles of mirror. Oops too late... couldn't resist this one (PG-26 I believe?) a couple months ago: https://www.ebay.com/itm/254928842290. Probably good advice about the optilume, but the PG-26 and a mirror should at least be an improvement over the current arrangement, and safer for the microscope.BramHuntingNematodes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 2:17 amHaving built three lamps and refurbishing two others my advice would be to get the optilume and forget about the field iris. ... Oh cool the toaster lamp!! That will definitely work. That is the bracket style. Harder to find out in the wild but you might be able to kludge something tolerable together.

It it impressive in person, somehow about twice the size I was imagining even though I had seen the catalog photo of it next to a Dynoptic. Field iris is 60 mm fully open! And heavy -- stand and housing are both thick cast aluminum.
Thanks, I had looked as that $7.12 one on eBay but wasn't sure if it was big enough. Looks like it is close to yours.
