#1 Post by GerryR » Thu Jun 23, 2022 3:55 pm

Looking to buy AO Spencer 60x Dry Objective Cat # 122 (infinity corrected) at a reasonable price (only have one arm and leg left!! ;) I'm in USA so prefer sale here to avoid high shipping costs.

Cat. # 122 is a 34mm parfocal objective rated at 60X in it's early incarnations and 57X in later incarnations. It was for a 160mm tube, not infinity. They are not very common. Several of the older 60X I have encountered have suffered from separation in the same element so you can't even make 1 out of 2 of them. There was also a W.I. version of that up until the 2nd W.W. and briefly after that a 60X 1.25 oil achromat.

The only infinity corrected 60X AO or later branded Reichert made was the cat.# 1303, 63X .80 Spl. achro. They did also make a cat.# 1016 34mm parfocal 50X .80 oil w./iris planachro and a cat. # 1758 45mm parfocal 50X .80 oil Neoplan.

Reichert Austria also made a 63X 1.0 45mm parfocal objective in both glycerin immersion and oil immersion. I have not seen a dry 63X 45mm parfocal but it is possible they made one later.

I'm trying to stay away from oil, and the 34mm parfocal infinity objectives are hard to come by, it seems, except for the standard 4x, 10x, 43x/45x, 97x/100x oil. I came across a 20x AO Spencer C80874 but don't know whether it is Infinity corrected. I've tried to search, but no cigar. I appreciate you correcting my misconception of the 122 being infinity corrected. Thank you for the information!

AO objectives labelled as C (C=coated) are for 160mm TL systems. Have you considered adding a pair of 15x eyepieces? Your 40x then gets you to 60x.

Edit: There's a 63x 34mm inifinity in this post viewtopic.php?f=16&t=15484

With the exception of only a few early infinity corrected apochromats that I know of ( 10X .30, 43X .80 and 80X 1.30) the infinity corrected objectives have the catalogue # engraved on the objective barrel. They are rarely 3 numbers and normally 4 numbers. There were rarely serial #'s on the infinity stuff.

Longer #'s and those that begin with a C are serial #'s , which were used on the 160mm objectives but no cat. # was engraved. C for coated.

Have s look at this thread. I should update it because I have a few new entries.

Thanks for the link, but too rich for my budget. Hadn't thought about the 15x eyepiece; only need one as only have a monocular 'scope. That's a good option.

That is a very comprehensive list. I've added it to my AO Sixty files, and when you update the list, I'll add them to my files as well. Thank you.
