Re: PZO kpi2 microscope in parts
I ended up buying these and it all came in an original PZO hardwood case. The seller, Kalvis , from Latvia was a super guy to deal with. He cooperated many times in providing enough pictures, so that I felt that the prisms were either in good shape or at least salvageable.
I acquired the original 94 page Biolar Polarizing Interference Microscope manual, from PZO in the late 80's, when I was looking into buying a Biolar 100 watt microscope from them. The price was far too low...... around 2400.00 CDN. with two condensers , 5 planachros and a case but I still couldn't swing it.
An Olympus BX40 or something like that , kitted out the same was about 6,000.00.
The parts are heavy! The interference head weighs 3 1/2 lbs. Generally, all is in good shape, needing a cleaning with one polarizer needing re-cementing.
My current plan for the KPI2 5 position DIC condenser is to retrofit it onto a Balplan with 4 flat field apochromats. The Balplan used a nice universal Nomarski prism , above the head. It has vertical motion , so can accommodate numerous objectives. Bausch & Lomb only ever made an epi DIC system, so had to find some Nomarski prisms to fit below the stage, in order to get a transmitted light DIC.
We will see what this brings. Perhaps, I will end up looking for a Biolar.

Re: PZO kpi2 microscope in parts
It only has a 1.2 condenser, which may be a bit of a problem with a 1.4 apo. Oddly, PZO did make 1.3 condensers. It seems weird that they did not install them as the DIC condenser.
